Since 2009 the laws on driving HGV,s have changed.The Driver CPC has been brought in and the age to drive a HGV over 7.5 ton has been reduced from 21 years old to 18 years old .
If you passed your car test before 1997 you acquired a C1 licence this is for Lorries/trucks up to 7.5 ton this means that if you are going to drive for a commercial or profit company carrying around and delivering their goods you will need to attend 35 hours Periodic Training before September 2014.
If you passed your car licence after 1997 you only received the Car licence/ Category B, this means you can not drive any vehicle that weighs over 3500kg
To Drive a vehicle over 7.5 ton you will to;
Apply for the category to put on your licence Pass a medical
Pass a Theory
You will then need to sit a HGV Training course and pass a Driving test and Driver CPC Module 4 Demonstration Test.
